The FOMC is a twelve-member committee made up of
the seven members of the Board of Governors; the president of the Federal
Reserve Bank of New York; and, for the remaining four seats, which carry
a one-year term, a rotating selection of the presidents of the eleven
other Reserve Banks. It meets eight times per year to set Federal Reserve
guidelines regarding the purchase and sale of government securities in
the open market as a means of influencing the volume of bank credit and
money in the economy. It also establishes policy relating to System operations
in the foreign exchange markets.

Schedule of Meetings
The FOMC holds eight regularly scheduled meetings during the year and other meetings as needed. Links to policy statements and minutes are in the calendars below. The minutes of regularly scheduled meetings are released three weeks after the date of the policy decision.
